What is Submissive?
Also known as: Sub
By Mara Vale · Reviewed by Elena Ward · Last updated
A submissive is the partner who consensually yields control during a scene and follows the dominant’s lead within agreed limits.
Submissive in context
Submission is an active choice, not passivity: the submissive defines limits up front, communicates during play and can stop the scene at any time with a safe word.
Many submissives describe the appeal as relief from decision-making, the focus of being directed, or the intensity of surrendering to someone they trust.
