What is Power Exchange?
By Mara Vale · Reviewed by Elena Ward · Last updated
Power exchange is the consensual transfer of control from a submissive to a dominant, either for a single scene or as an ongoing arrangement.
Power Exchange in context
The submissive grants authority; the dominant accepts responsibility for using it within the agreed limits. Because power is given rather than taken, it can also be withdrawn.
Short exchanges last one scene. Longer ones, sometimes called total power exchange, extend rules and rituals into daily life and need regular check-ins.
